NEW FAIRTRADE PRODUCTS
Cosmetics:
An important recent addition to the range of Fairtrade products is the new range of cosmetics launched in June of this year using Fairtrade-certified ingredients. They include lip balms, face masks, body butters and shower gels produced nationally by Traidcraft, Boots, Bubble & Balm, Essential Care, Lush and Neal’s Yard. Each product contains one or more Fairtrade certified ingredient such as cocoa butter, shea nut butter, sugar or brazil nut oil, benefitting disadvantaged producers from countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. To date, 57 cosmetic products have been licensed by the Fairtrade Foundation and it is expected that many more will follow.
Cadbury's Dairy Milk
In July, Cadbury’s launched its new Fairtrade-certified Dairy Milk chocolate bars. Dairy Milk is the UK's most popular chocolate bar. The move will triple the amount of cocoa sold under Fairtrade terms in Ghana from approximately 5,000 to 15,000 tonnes.
Starbuck's Coffee
In September, Starbucks switched all its espresso-based coffees (cappucino, latte, mocha and americano) to Fairtrade. It is predicted that this will increase by 18% the amount of Fairtrade-certified coffee sold in the UK and Ireland.
